Billboard Latin Music Awards - Show

We know that 2017 was an incredible year for Latinx artists to thrive and flourish in the mainstream eye. Thankfully, this year’s Grammy Awards will reflect just that.

Seven of the most nominated artists are all people of color and for the first time in nearly 20 years, no white men were nominated for Album of the Year.

As we relish in a #GrammysSoBlack moment, we also recognize that this year is a big one for the Latinx community. We’re also being treated to performances by four Latinx artists taking the stage. Cardi B and Bruno Mars are slated to perform the In Living Color-inspired remix that took over our YouTube screens, “Finesse.” Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee are going to be singing their smash single “Despacito,” thankfully without help from Justin Bieber.

The last time four Latinx acts hit the stage at the Grammys was in 1999 when Marc Anthony, Poncho Sanchez, Ibrahim Ferrer, and Ricky Martin performed in honor of the Recording Academy’s introduction of the Latin Grammys the following year.

The performances aren’t the only way in which the artists have the opportunity to steal the stage. “Despacito” also received nominations in Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year categories. If Fonsi and Yankee win either of the two latter categories, they could make history with the first Spanish-language song to do so. Bardi is also up for Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song for “Bodak Yellow” and Bruno is up for Record of the Year and Album of the Year.

We’re glad to know that Latinx people are finally getting the moment they deserve to shine in the mainstream, especially with Spanish-language songs. Make sure to tune into the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, which will air on January 28 (7:30 p.m. ET) on CBS.
