Comedian Dave Chappelle wants to explain a few things to poor white folks about their support of President Donald Trump. His hilarious (but true) advice, shared in the first trailer for his upcoming Netflix special, comes on the heels of the Republican Party passing a sweeping tax reform bill that mainly benefits corporations and wealthy individuals.
“You’re poor. He’s fighting for me,” the stand-up comic told his audience after noting that he made a bunch of money last year.
In the first look, released on Thursday, Chappelle reflects on the election that swept Trump into office. The entertainer said he never had a problem with whites before, but poor white people “are my least favorites” because “we’ve got a lot of trouble out of them.” Chappelle said he felt sorry for poor white people after seeing their “coal smeared faces” close-up and realizing that they’re “decent folk” who are just angry and determined. He joked that after making lots of money last year that he’s been hanging out with rich white people and learned that they consider poor whites as “trash.” He said the wealthy class really doesn’t have any interest in helping them.
Chappelle earned $60 million in his deal with Netflix. This third comedy special will be available to stream on Dec. 31.
