Converse Jack Purcell— the shoe that’s remained true to its 1933 debut on the badminton court— is getting a tricked out makeover. BornxRaised co-founder Spanto partnered with the brand on a luxe update of the classic kicks, dropping next month.

The Venice, Calif. native’s sportswear label— founded with creative partner 2Tone in 2013—is deeply rooted in the street culture of the beachfront town. Long the artist’s alternative to the Chuck Taylor on the Venice skate scene, Spanto himself grew up wearing the style as a kid and considers the remix a love letter to the storied sneaks.

“If you position yourself in this one spot on the Venice boardwalk,” Spanto says, “you can see a mural, it must be about 60 feet. Growing up, it used to be a mural of my dad, who was a blues musician.”

Combining high and low accents, the Converse x BornxRaised Jack Purcell was inspired by Spano’s personal style— modern sportswear meets retro Cali cool. A nod to a fresh buzz cut, the tricked out sneaks feature black or camel pony hair paired with a rubber heel.

Cop these babies beginning February 3, at Converse.com and select retailers. They’ll also be available for pre-release this Friday, January 2nd on the Venice Boardwalk at 1313 Oceanfront Walk, Venice CA, 90291.
