Kid Cudi recently sat down for a conversation with GQ’s Mark A. Green, during which he talked about everything from Kids See Ghosts to why he really loved his previous part-time gig at Papa John’s.

“I loved that job,” he shared with a smile. “I loved making pizzas. You put me in any Papa John’s right now and I can still throw down.”

It’s always wonderful to see Cudi in good spirits, especially considering that almost exactly two years ago, he had checked himself into rehab. With that all behind him, he’s choosing to “write the light,” and we couldn’t be happier about his decision.

In addition to getting in front of Julian Berman’s camera—dripping in designer names from Dior to Raf Simons—he also broke down some of his most iconic tracks, including Reborn, which samples Kurt Cobain’s “Burn the Rain” from Montage of Heck.

“When you’re working on samples, there’s always that thought that maybe this won’t get cleared,” he shared, citing how, in the past, he’s had to make last-minute changes to songs in place of samples that didn’t get the green light. But both Courtney Love and Frances Bean Cobain were gracious enough to allow him and Kanye to use the sample, and thus, “Reborn” was… born.

He also talks about fan favorite “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1,” “All of the Lights,” among others. Press play to hear what else he had to share, then check out a list of some of our favorites below.
