“Ain’t no b*tches, ain’t no queens, I’m the motherf*cking king,” DAWN proclaims at the top of her latest track, “new breed.” Freshly released on Wednesday (Nov. 7), the single serves as the title track to her forthcoming album, which she’s calling “a new project about what it means to be a ninth ward girl from jonlee before all the industry sh*t.”

new breed—which is slated to drop on Jan. 5 of next year—is the followup to 2016’s Redemption and will feature work by Hudson Mohawke, Cole M.G.N., and Kaveh Rastegarwith. The album’s first single, “jealousy,” dropped in September along with a music video.

As longtime fans are probably already aware, DAWN (formerly known as D∆WN and Dawn Richard) is on tour with Aubrey O’Day and Shannon Bex as Danity Kane. The tour marks the group’s first reunion since dropping DK3 and later dissolving. It also features songs by Dumblonde, “the dance-pop project formed by O’Day and Bex in the wake of Danity Kane’s dissolution,” as noted by Pitchfork.

In a recent interview with iHeartRadio, DAWN explained how putting this Danity Kane tour together was different than putting together previous ones.

“I think it’s the collaborative effort of putting our solo work with our DK stuff,” she shared. “I think it was important for us to show our art in all facets and to me that’s what makes it different than the other shows where we’re always kind of doing what everyone expected us to do.”

And while DAWN was hesitant upon Aubrey reaching out for reconciliation, she says that the groups rekindling was genuine and organic, which made their professional reunion easy. “It was love,” she added regarding first talks of the tour.
