It’s been three days since Nipsey Hussle was tragically gunned down in front of his The Marathon clothing store. A petition was launched on Monday (Apr 1) by Non-profit organization Project Islamic H.O.P.E. hoping to rename a Los Angeles intersection after the late rapper is racking up signatures.

Nipsey Hussle Blvd will be the name if the Project Islamic H.O.P.E is successful. The petition which is directed L.A. Council member Marqueece Harris-Dawson is requesting that the intersection of Crenshaw and Slauson be renamed to Nipsey Hussle Way in honor of the community icon. The location is where both Hussle’s store is located and where he tragically lost his life. The end goal was initially set at 7,500, but as of right now the petition has amassed over 199,000 signatures and is well on its way to hitting 200,000.

Hussle’s alleged killer Eric Holder was identified by the police as a suspect and was quickly located and taken into police custody on Tuesday (April 2). Hussle’s long-time girlfriend and the mother of his son Lauren London finally broker her silence in an Instagram post stating:

“I am completely lost. I’ve lost my best friend. My sanctuary. My protector. My soul… I’m lost without you. We are lost without you, babe. I have no words.”

Despite his alleged killer now in custody, the world is clearly still dealing with the tremendous loss. Nipsey Hussle was more than a rapper, he was a beacon of hope for his neighborhood that he refused to abandon. You can sign the petition here to add your name to the ever-growing list.
