If you’re throwing a drink back each day, know that it can increase your lifespan and increase your chances of developing many diseases. Research shows that the amount of alcohol an individual consumes has a direct correlation to the severity of the adverse impact.

A team of researchers studied 600,000 participants and found:

  • Drinking 100-200 grams of alcohol per week shortens lifespans by six months
  • Drinking 200-350 grams of alcohol per week shortens lifespans by two years
  • Drinking more than 350 grams of alcohol per week shortens lifespans by four-five years

Drinkers also developed major ailments and were at higher risk of being diagnosed with cardiovascular disease, experiencing a stroke, heart failure and having a fatal aortic aneurysm. “This study has shown that drinking alcohol at levels which were believed to be safe is actually linked with lower life expectancy and several adverse health outcomes,” stated Dr. Dan G. Blazer of Duke University. He co-authored the study.

Experts conclude that there are no health benefits to drinking alcohol.
