Alton Sterling’s children are reportedly suing the city of Baton Rouge for his death. According to CNN, a wrongful death lawsuit was filed, “claiming their father’s fatal shooting last year by a Baton Rouge police officer violated his civil rights and fits a pattern of excessive force and racism within the police department’s ranks.” The suit was filed Tuesday in Louisiana state court.

After Hillary Clinton 2016 presidential campaign chairman John Podesta met with House investigators on Tuesday, CNN reports Trump’s longtime friend Roger Stone—known for being a “dirty trickster” for Nixon—is testifying before the House intelligence committee. “I am confident that Podesta most likely repeated his lie that I knew in advance about the hacking of his email, and am anxious to rebut this falsehood,” Stone said in a statement to CNN Tuesday regarding Russia’s involvement in the 2016 election. “I am still unhappy that my testimony will not be in public, but believe it is more important to resolve the question of Russian collusion with the Trump campaign — which I believe was nonexistent.” As CNN notes, Stone has requested to testify publicly on multiple occasions. Stone told CNN in May: “I acknowledge I am a hardball player. I have sharp elbows. I always play politics the way it is supposed to be played. But one thing isn’t in my bag of tricks: treason.” The closed session will take place on July 24.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, Ava Le’Ray Barrin is the 14th trans woman of color to be killed in 2017, according to Trans Griot. Reports from Athens Banner-Herald and Atlanta Journal Constitution—who both misgendered the teen—state Barrin was fatally shot following an altercation between her and 21-year-old Jalen Breon Brown. Athens Clarke County PD spokesperson Epifanio Rodriguez says Barrin and Brown knew each other prior to the fight. Barrin was found lifeless in the parking lot of 1020 College Ave when Athens-Clarke PD responded to a report of the incident. Brown is facing a murder charge in the death of Barrin despite claiming self-defense.
