As temperatures rise across the country, every music lover’s favorite time of the year is finally here: festival season. Here, you’ll see folks plan cross-country trips throughout the summer, carefully using those vacation days in order to catch the best acts in music all on the same bill. And while the older festivals bring in thousands upon thousands year in and year out, the newer festivals look to combine music with the issues and initiatives of our world and culture.

The Broccoli City Music Festival— the brainchild of a collective of young, Black creatives focused on making and creating positive change in the world—has brought some of the biggest names in music to Washington D.C. The event uses great music to promote health and environmental awareness.
Founded in 2013, Broccoli City revolves around the 1970’s-created Earth Day celebration, introducing a new generation to the initiative that supports environmental protection.
