Ever wondered what a feminist Black Mirror would look like? Before now, neither had we, but it looks like one will soon be on its way when Carmen Maria Machado’s Her Body and Other Parties gets adapted into a “Black Mirror-esque” anthology series.

According to Vulture, the author’s acclaimed queer, feminist horror story collection—which was a 2017 National Book Award finalist—was tapped by Imagine Television (Empire, Parenthood) amid “a competitive series of pitches from producers, writers, and directors.” The book will be developed into a show with writer Gina Welch (Feud, The Terror) with an aim to become “a force in the conversation about gender.”

Samie Kim Falvey, president of Imagine Television, told Vulture that Machado’s stories “capture the intense, unspoken psychology of inhabiting a woman’s body today.” Jezebel adds that “Machado’s stories tackle female experience in dark, absurd and often mythical ways, from a woman who lists off her sexual encounters as the world succumbs to a plague, to an unsettling re-write of the scary story classic The Green Ribbon.”

With all that said, there’s certainly room to create quite the captivating show. No word on when we can expect it to hit television, but you can bet we’ll be keeping tabs on that air date.

In other Carmen Maria Machado news, the author was recently profiled by Vulture about sexism and her testimony regarding Junot Díaz. “What I think is so interesting about Díaz, specifically, is that his work is so overtly misogynist and has always been that way,” she told Vulture. And though the women in his books are often “reduced to tits and ass,” she added, “people talk about Junot Díaz as if he’s this saint of progressivism.”
