As we close durag history week, Dustin is prepared to teach you everything you need to know about the godly fabric that layeth thy waves.

Before one graces your dome, you should know its history: it originated back in the 19th century when poor laborers and slaves used it to tie their hair back. Fast forward to the Harlem Renaissance when it became a vital part of preserving your hair. Decades later, it became a fashion statement into the 2000s with all your favorite rappers wearing one that matched their NFL jersey and Air Force Ones.

Now that you know the history, it’s also important to know that durags come in silk, polyester, and velvet. Dustin said he’s even seen caveman with suede durags, and while we have no way to prove he’s lying— we’re pretty sure he is.

You can either knot the cape in the back, or if you’re supremely confident (or want people to know that you don’t give a f*ck what anyone else is doing), then let that tail blow in the wind beneath your way-too-big fitted cap. And if you really want to look like a mid-90s Jadakiss video, cop yourself a two-tone durag so people know what era you rep.

Oh, and we have no idea who thought to call Eminem a classic durag representer. But to be safe, let’s just say it was Dustin.

Grown Man Shit, Durags
