Forbes’ annual list of the worlds most valuable sports franchises has arrived, and it’s pretty much the usual suspects. Despite the global appeal of The World Cup and the sport of soccer, American football is king still according to the publication.
Even though the NFL has had its issues as of late, 29 out of 32 teams made Forbes list with America’s team, although Stephen A.Smith feels otherwise, the Dallas Cowboys grabbing top honors being worth $4.8 billion. Right behind them respectively, Premier League soccer club Manchester United ($4.123 billion), La Liga powerhouses Real Madrid ($4.09 billion) and Barcelona ($4.064 billion).
New York City is well represented on the list as well. The Yankees ($4 billion) lands the fifth spot on Forbes list and are the MLB’s most valuable franchise. The New York Knicks ($3.6 billion) despite their struggles on the court and luring all-star talent are the still the NBA’s most valuable team earning them the seventh spot behind the New England Patriots ($3.7 billion). The LeBron-led Los Angeles Lakers are eighth on the list worth a respectable $3.3 billion and you can expect that number to rise by next year and are followed by NY Giants $3.3 billion, current NBA champions The Golden State Warriors ($3.1 billion) and Washington Washington Football Team ($3.1 billion).
If you are wondering, yes the Mets ($2.1 billion) find themselves on the list showing their resilience and getting back on the feet financially after the being affected by Bernie Madoff’s Ponzi scheme. The Jets ($2.75 billion) fell eight spots from 2017’s list and now own the 21st spot on the list. To see the full list you can head over to Forbes to check if your team has made the cut.
