Get excited—Netflix is bringing back another ’90s classic with a contemporary twist.

The streaming service has acquired the live-action feature film rights to Carmen Sandiego, the lady in red who captivated our minds and childhoods. To make the deal even sweeter, Jane the Virgin’s Gina Rodriguez will be starring as the title character.

She’s producing the film through her I Can and I Will Productions company, alongside Kevin Misher and Caroline Fraser, and executive producer Andy Berman of Misher films. Rodriguez created I Can and I Will Productions in 2015 with the mission to create art that tells stories from the unheard and unseen, discover and expose new talent, and increase empathy and understanding for all communities.

Netflix announced last year that it would create a new animated series for Carmen Sandiego that will premiere in 2019 with Rodriguez voicing the title character. The live-action film will be a standalone story. There will also be a line of books from HMH Productions, the owner of the Carmen Sandiego property, that will launch in 2019 to be released with the series.

With the slew of ’80s and ’90s remakes coming at us, this is definitely one we have our eyes on. And we can’t wait to see Rodriguez shine as she teaches the next generation of kids geography with the flair for mystery that only Carmen Sandiego can bring.
