Don’t ever doubt the power of Black folks uniting, especially at the movies. The hilarious summer blockbuster, Girls Trip, just passed the $100 million mark at the domestic box office, making it the first comedy this year to achieve this amazing accomplishment. The film joins the $100 million club with other classic Black films, like Straight  Outta Compton, Get Out, The Butler and The Best Man Holiday.

According to Deadline, Universal knew it had a hit on its hands during advanced screenings. Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish had that onscreen chemistry that is sure to inspire many more sequels.

But hold up, there’s more — Girls Trip isn’t just a domestic hit, it’s a huge success internationally. The comedy topped the box office in South Africa for two consecutive weekends. The film also grossed $7.4M in the United Kingdom and could possibly surpass Get Out, which made $12.7M. The Malcolm D. Lee film will also be released in Australia and Romania on August 31, with additional markets in November. So much for the dated Hollywood notion that “Black films don’t travel.”

Girls Trip, which opened on July 21, is Lee’s top opening at the box office with $31.2M. For Will Packer, who is the producer, the film is his third title to cross $100M after Ride Along and Straight Outta Compton.
