The curious case of Colin Kaepernick’s absence from the NFL continues to be a complete mystery.
But the collusion case that Kap filed will hopefully unearth why no teams have signed him, despite most people— even Johnny Football— knowing why he’s not on a roster. But in accordance with the grievance case, Baltimore Ravens head coach and general manager Ozzie Newsome will reportedly be interviewed by the NFL. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reports that Harbaugh and Newsome are set to talk to league officials at the Ravens’ practice facility and Kaepernick has the option to attend. After all, he was present for Houston Texans owner Bob McNair’s deposition.
During Kap’s unemployment, the Ravens were the closest team to actually sign the quarterback but would go with Thad Lewis, an undrafted free agent who would never make it past the final roster cuts for the season. Last September, Ray Lewis revealed that the Ravens didn’t sign him because of a tweet his girlfriend sent that compared a picture of Lewis and franchise owner Steve Bisciotti to a scene from Django Unchained.
“We were going to close the deal to sign him. Steve Bisciotti said, ‘I want to hear Colin Kaepernick speak to let me know that he wants to play football.’ And it never happens because that picture comes up the next day,” Lewis said on Showtime’s Inside the NFL.
Last year Harbough revealed that he had a relationship with Kap, though his brother Jim coached him during his tenure with the 49ers.
“I’ve known Colin through my brother for many years. And we talked and then got to know him very well when he scrimmaged here. He and I have been talking throughout the summer a number of times, ” Harbaugh told reporters in 2017.
Kap just wants the NFL to admit that the league’s ownership is blackballing him because of his national anthem protests.
