A shooting at Marshall County High School in Benton, Ky. has reportedly left two dead and 17 others injured. “Tragic shooting at Marshall County HS,” Governor Matt Bevin tweeted Tuesday morning. “Shooter is in custody, one confirmed fatality, multiple others wounded.”

According to CNN, the shooter—a 15-year-old student—is in custody, while those who were injured were taken to hospitals for treatment.

“This is a tremendous tragedy and speaks to the heartbreak present in our communities,” Bevin continued in a statement released via Twitter. “It is unbelievable that this would happen in a small, close-knit community like Marshall County. As there is still much unknown, I encourage people to love on each other at this time. Do not speculate, but come alongside each other in support and allow the facts to come out.”

Relatives of students described the scene upon arriving to pick up their kids.

“They were busting down the gates and fences just to get out,” Shea Thompson, who had teen siblings on school grounds during the shooting, told NBC News. High school junior Greg Rodgers, who said he “pulled off to the side of the road” to get out of the way of those running, was shocked.

“I asked my friend what was going on and he told me that there was a school shooting,” Rodgers stated. “He said that someone had just shot up the school.”

The shooting comes a day after a 16-year-old boy opened fire at Italy High School in Texas, injuring a 15-year-old girl who was airlifted to Parkland Memorial Hospital. While the boy initially fled the scene, he was later arrested. Police have not released his name. Parkland Memorial Hospital also has not released details regarding the girl’s condition.
