L il Jon is making a difference for kindergartners in Ghana.
Jonathan “Lil Jon” Smith helped fund the creation of a primary school in the eastern region of Ghana. Over the weekend, the King of Crunk shared photos on Instagram of the opening of Abomayaw D.A. Kindergarten. The school block, which includes three fully furnished classrooms, lavatories, and an office, was created in collaboration with education organization Pencils of Promise.
Ghana radio site StarrFM Online reports that the local kindergarten children typically study under trees and in a shed, and were sent home whenever it rained. Because of these conditions, only 75 out of 200 school aged children attend the school and many kids of farmers are discouraged from attending.
“This is the first project we’ve done together of this kind and it is amazing to see the community come out to support and the appreciation they are showing for us building the school,” the 46-year-old rapper and producer told StarrFM Online. “I just feel like I’m lost for words of how amazing it feels to give the community something like this school.”
Lil Jon visited the site with his wife Nicole and son Nathan. He funded the project in honor of his late mother, Carrie M. Smith, whose birthday falls in October.
