Big Facts

On Sunday, North Korea launched and tested the “perfect weapon system,” which engineers of leader Kim Jong Un claim can carry “a large-size heavy nuclear warhead.” As reported by The Washington Post, if this is true, North Korea may be closer to developing an intercontinental ballistic missile than previously anticipated. John Schilling, an aerospace engineer, told TWP, “North Korea’s latest successful missile test represents a level of performance never before seen from a North Korean missile.” So basically: North Korea could have an ICBM within the next year.

Big Lies

A group of “alt-right” demonstrators gathered in Charlottesville, Va. on Saturday to protest the removal of—you guessed it—another Confederate monument that should’ve been taken down a long-ass time ago. According to The Washington Post, the group was led by none other than white supremacist Richard Spencer, who attended the University of Virginia. “What brings us together is that we are white, we are a people, we will not be replaced,” Spencer said at the first of two rallies. Protesters wielded torches and chanted, “You will not replace us” and “Russia is our friend” during the second rally later that evening, but it ended just minutes later following “an altercation between Spencer’s group and counterprotesters” that “drew police to the scene.”

Big News

Two teens grown-ass men were arrested Friday after hanging a noose outside a Maryland middle school, WUSA9 reports. According to police, Conner Prout and John Havermann, who are both 19, were seen hanging the noose on a light fixture outside of Crofton Middle School on Thursday morning via surveillance video. The noose was reportedly found by a teacher around 11 a.m. the next day and removed by a custodian. Both Prout and Havermann face charges of trespassing on school property, trespassing posted property, disturbing school operations, and disorderly conduct.
