The Paley Center For Media Presents: An Evening With 'Roseanne'

Well, that was quick— in a matter of hours, Roseanne Barr got her own show canceled.

Early Tuesday morning, Roseanne went on a Twitter rant where she spewed false conspiracies, attacked former first daughter Chelsea Clinton and even let off a hateful tweet about former President Barack Obama’s advisor Valerie Jarrett. She identified Jarrett by her initials and referred to her as an animal, tweeting, “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.”

The fall out took just hours as the tweets began to go viral with Clinton being the first person to respond at 7:03 AM, denouncing that she’s married to Democratic donor George Soros.

And three hours later Roseanne tweeted that she was in the wrong, realizing that her jokes had offended people. “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans,” she wrote. “I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me – my joke was in bad taste.”

But that apology wasn’t enough for Wanda Sykes, who tweeted that she would not return to the show as a consulting producer, after being offended by her string of tweets.

And this afternoon, ABC officially pulled the plug on Roseanne, citing the comic’s comments on Twitter.

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” the network said in a statement released just hours after the rant.

The power of Twitter.
