Tinker Hatfield is responsible for some of your favorite Air Jordans— anything between the 3 and 15 was designed under him.

But Hatfield is taking a break from his legendary designs to create a silhouette with famed sports writer Scoop Jackson. His commentary has been a mainstay in sports journalism for more than 20 years and he currently contributes to ESPN. Other than being an official sports head, he’s also a sneaker junkie and even wrote a book about 30 years of Nike Basketball that you can cop here.

According to Sole Collector, Hatfield spoke at a Nike event in Portland, where he mentioned that he started working on Jackson’s sneaker 14 months ago. It all started  when he asked Jackson to write a letter about why basketball is so important to him.

Hatfield hasn’t shown Jackson the designs yet because, you know, legalities, but he can’t wait for a prototype release. “Once I get the working prototype that can be tried on, and played basketball in, I’m gonna get on a plane and go see Scoop and show it to him. We’ll talk a little bit more about his story and how it influenced the design of the shoe,” he shared.
