With the cold weather winding down and boots being pushed to the back of the closet, it’s time to re-up on your sneaker essentials. While your collections may be stocked with the trendiest pairs that have recently dropped, classic tennis shoes, retro basketball kicks and the dress sneaker are just a few options you should definitely have in your arsenal.

Here are CASSIUS’ recommendations for the five styles that every man should own.

Common Projects Original Achilles Low – White; ($411; Barneys.com)

1A sleek tennis shoe that can be worn year round is a must, and adidas’ classic Stan Smith has reigned supreme in this category. For a welcome upgrade, try Common Projects’ Achilles sneaker. The brand’s utilitarian designs feature gold imprinted numbers on the heel displaying the style, size and color. At $350 more than the three stripes edition, the price tag may seem a bit steep; but once you slip your foot into that napa leather and let the patina age, it’ll all make sense.

Air Jordan 1 Black/Red; ($160; nike.com)

2When it comes to wearable retro basketball sneakers, the Jordan 1 is the prototype. Leaving behind the dreaded bulkiness of its 1980s counterparts,  simplicity, height, and colorblocking make these summer ready. The Jordan 1 was the catalyst for the early aughts of the sneaker game and has stood the test of time. These will definitely become your go-tos, but don’t worry, like skate culture, this shoe ages like fine wine. Yellow tinted soles and creases amassed after constant wear just add to their charm.

Nike Flyknit Racer “Multi-color 2.0” ($150; Nike.com)

3Nike’s sneaker technology has been on one since they debuted the Air Max One, the first sneaker with visible air, back in 1987. Always ahead of the curve, Nike’s Flyknit Racer is the quintessential warm weather sneaker. The thin, knit upper cuts down on waste materials, while the form-fitting design creates a seamless fit perfect for those with narrow feet. Weighing in at just 5.6 ounces you’ll never wanna take these off. The Racers debuted back in 2012 and since then, tons of new colors have released. Oh, and please don’t wear socks with these.

Vans Old Skool  ($60; Vans.com)

4Long before Kanye said “Some days i’m in my Vans,” the Cali-based brand was killing things. The simplistic silhouette beloved by skaters has been a staple in West Coast’s culture, much like the Air Force One has been on the East Coast. But after the ‘Ye cosign, and collabs with Parisian fashion house Colette and Jerry Lorenzo’s Fear Of God, the affordable kicks are riding a wave of popularity that’s here to stay.

adidas Originals NMD_R2 Primeknit Shoes ($170; adidas.com)

5adidas has been digging its heels in the ground. Not only when it comes to revamping and reissuing its classics, but also in grabbing some of that runner market share previously dominated by the swoosh. Playing to its loyal fan base by leaving the iconic three stripes on the medial side. the entire upper has been deconstructed into a sock-like material complete with elastic around the ankles. And then there’s boost technology. Boost is a bunch of small, spongy capsules that mold to the shape of your foot when you step down and even back out during your stride. These are a must if you plan on doing a ton of walking around the city this summer, or hitting up festivals.
