Netflix’s new anime series is about to make the genre way more inclusive.
Neo Yokio is the brainchild of Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend. It takes place in a city, Neo Yokio, that is a cultural mix of New York City and Tokyo, and it serves as the center of fashion, finance, and culture.
The story follows Kaz Kaan, voiced by Jaden Smith, who is the youngest in a family of “magistocrats.” These pink-haired demon slayers once liberated the city, but now Kaz only slays demons when his Aunt Agatha (Susan Sarandon) says he can. Otherwise, he hangs out with his friends Lexy and Gottlieb (The Kid Mero and Desus Nice) and kicks it with his robot butler, Charles (Jude Law).
Other notable guest stars on the decidedly satirical show include Willow Smith, Amandla Stenberg, and Tavi Gevinson.
The season will debut on Netflix on September 22, but you can check out the official trailer below.
