Congratulations are in order for Michael Che and Colin Jost, who were both just promoted as co-head writers for Saturday Night Live. But congratulations are particularly in order for Che, who is now the first Black person to make his way into the position.

According to DeadlineChe and Jost join existing head writers Kent Sublette and Bryan Tucker, rounding out the co-head writer staff since Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider’s exit. The promotion marks a significant career milestone for Che, who first appeared on The Daily Show before joining the SNL team in 2013.

And of course you also know Che for some of his other noteworthy feats, including the “Black Jeopardy” episode of SNL in what The Washington Post called the show’s “best political sketch this year.” Jost and Che joined forces for the show’s acclaimed “Weekend Update” sketch in 2014. Throughout their tenure, the two have served up some pretty pointed commentary regarding the current state of America, particularly Donald Trump and all the calamity transpiring in the White House.

From the devastation in Charlottesville to the time Che dressed up as a white woman named Gretchen, we’re celebrating some of the duo’s best political hot takes below.
