Ok, here’s a secret. The 2002 thriller, The Panic Room, starring Jodie Foster and Kristen Stewart was the first movie that really touched my soul. I’m serious. Since I was a child I’ve always been completely obsessed with having a room in my home that I can lock myself in, lock the world out, and watch everything from the comfort of my secret lair. I wasn’t the only one, right?

Well, not since my beloved Panic Room captured my thoughts and my heart have I been this intrigued by a movie about a subject so dear to me. Now, I know for a fact that if there’s one fight in life you never want to be on the opposite end of, it’s a fight with an angry mother—especially one of color! In the trailer for Gabrielle Union’s upcoming thriller Breaking In, intruders have absolutely picked the wrong mother (Union) to mess with when they decide to kidnap her children in her family’s home.

Here’s the synopsis:

Directed by James McTeigue from Ryan Engel’s script, Breaking In follows Shaun (Union) who, after the sudden death of her father, takes her two kids to Dad’s Malibu mansion to settle his estate. But awaiting her are four villains intent on finding the deceased’s safe and making off with its contents. Little do they know, no trap, no trick and especially no man inside will stop this mom from trying to rescue her two children being held hostage in a house designed with impenetrable security. Billy Burke, Richard Cabral, Seth Carr and Ajiona Alexus co-star.

Union is credited as a producer on the film, and this should be a great appetizer for her fans as they await the two-hour movie finale of her hit show, Being Mary Jane, due later this year.

Breaking In opens in theaters on Mother’s Day, May 13.
