Jamie Foxx is extending his relationship with Fox Entertainment. The comedian/actor who just won a NAACP Image Award for his Netflix special What Had Happened Was signed on the dotted line to further his entertainment footprint with the studio. He and his oldest daughter Corrinne already host Beat Shazam there, and Foxx executive produces the show Alert: Missing Persons Unit.
In this new deal, Fox Studio will have a first look at any projects across the entertainment spectrum, including comedy specials, movies, and TV shows through his Foxxhole Productions. Fox’s reality TV company, Fox Alternative Entertainment, will have exclusive rights to any unscripted projects.
“We are ready and excited to kick-start this very promising new creative partnership with Jamie as we build on Fox’s longtime association with him — initiated by our CEO Rob Wade and network president Michael Thorn,” Fernando Szew, president of Fox Entertainment Studios, said in a statement. “Jamie is a renowned multifaceted talent, so as a studio, we want to support his tremendous creativity with access to the full scope of our genres, formats, and brands.”
Foxx’s comedy special What Had Happened Was scored a 100% critic’s rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though the public ratings were a little harsher at only 66%. He picked up an NAACPImage Award for the special, in which he revealed what happened during his 2023 ‘medical emergency.’ He thanked his daughters and sister for keeping him alive and keeping the details away from the media until he was ready to talk about it.
Foxx, 57, was born Eric Bishop in Texas. He started his career on the Fox sketch comedy show In Living Color in 1991, which led him to his own sitcom, The Jamie Foxx Show, on the CW, co-starring Garcelle Beauvais and former SNL star Garrett Morris. Since then, he’s earned a Best Actor Oscar for Ray, a Grammy, and multiple NAACP Awards.
Of his new endeavor, he said on Instagram. “Brand new chapter about to begin!! Big thanks to Fox… we are about to heat things up!!! Straight from the Foxx hole!!!”
