Sterling K. Brown won an Emmy Award tonight for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series, and his acceptance speech was like a journey through Black television history.

The This Is Us actor took the time to shout out his TV wife by referencing one of the small screen’s most iconic couples: “Susan Kelechi Watson, it is my pleasure to rep Black love with you sister. Let’s keep doing it like Martin and Gina.” Aye!

He also paid a beautiful tribute to his predecessor in this particular Emmys category, Andre Braugher, known for his Emmy-winning role as Detective Frank Pembleton on Homicide: Life on the Street.

“I just want to say Mr. Braugher, whether it is at Stanford University or on this Emmy stage, it is my supreme honor to follow in your footsteps.”

Watch his beautiful speech, below:

Although the two-time Emmy winner’s speech was cut off during the CBS live broadcast, he graciously finished his speech backstage:

That statue couldn’t have gone to a more deserving actor. Congrats, Sterling!
