Early Thursday, July 13, the Television Academy released the nominees for this year’s Emmy Awards. Thankfully, plenty of fan-favorite shows made the cut.
For Best Drama Series, This Is Us goes up against The Crown, the intense Netflix hit that tells the story of Queen Elizabeth II. With HBO blockbuster Game of Thrones ineligible for 2017 recognition, The Crown is widely hailed as the show to beat.
It looks like Underground executive producer John Legend won’t get his chance to achieve EGOT status this year as the WGN series wasn’t nominated in any category. Underground, canceled after just two seasons, was a groundbreaking period drama about the Underground Railroad in Antebellum Georgia.
Elsewhere on the list, Sterling K. Brown (This Is Us) is nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series, Viola Davis (HTGAWM) goes up against Claire Foy (The Crown) for Best Actress in a Drama Series, and Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish) is nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. This is going to be good, although Issa Rae‘s Insecure was noticeably snubbed.
Check out the list of picks below (full list here) and let us know if you think the Academy got it right this year. The 69th Emmy Awards will air live on CBS from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. EST.
