Now that Memorial Day is a wrap and summer is (un)officially upon us, Scotch Porter CEO and founder Calvin Quallis thinks it’s time for you to up your grooming game. And we agree. With the rising Mercury comes a host of backyard BBQs, weddings and day parties. Your social calendar’s about to be packed, so you better stay ready.

With a grooming empire on the horizon, Quallis knows a thing or two about staying fly. On the eve of the launch of his new haircare line, Quallis caught up with Team CASSIUS to provide tips on maintaining your summer swag.

1SHOW YOUR BEARD SOME LOVE

Shampoo and condition your beard with sulfate-free products, but don’t overwash: three times a week is mint. Keep your facial hair moisturized and have your barber trim split ends every six to eight weeks to prevent breakage.

2 GO EASY ON SHAMPOO

When it’s hot as hell and you’re sweating bullets, it’s pretty likely you’ll be showering a few times a day. When washing your hair, try nixing the shampoo and cleanse with conditioner instead. The latter will leave your hair moisturized and frizz free.

3 DON’T OVERSTYLE

Believe it or not, the more you brush or comb your hair, the less healthy it can look and feel. Too much brushing or combing can cause excessive shedding and permanently damage the hair’s cuticle.

4 FOAMING IS OVERRATED

Quality face washing doesn’t mean drowning your skin in foam. Many ingredients used in those super foaming cleansers strip skin of natural oils, leaving you looking dull and dry, so beware.

5 PAY ATTENTION TO SUNCARE

Avoiding sunscreen is NOT an option. Everyone— including those with darker skin tones— should use sunscreen everyday with an SPF of at least 30. Even on cloudy days. This helps prevent sunburn, skin cancer and dark spots caused by exposing skin to harmful rays.
