Due to social distancing, Holidays are more different than they’ve ever been.

Visiting family is tough and actually being able to spend quality time with them is hard in an effort to keep everyone in your family and close friends safe. So, instead of the typical holiday activities, you can still make the holidays memorable without breaking the bank or catching a flight by taking a road trip. Traveling with those in the same household as you is safe and a great way to spend some genuine time together while making memories. The only thing is, forgetting a few obvious things will make every waking moment in the car a nightmare, so we put together a list of things you must pack with you to make it as seamless as possible.

Cash

It seems obvious, but for millennials living in a digital world, it’s often forgotten. While on a road trip, there could be small stores and shops that’ll make you want to buy an ironic hat or a drink. Some businesses will be *gasp* cash only or need you to hit a minimum before using your credit card. Also, using your credit card at ATMs in unfamiliar places is never a smart move.

Snacks

Ensure everyone in the whip has their favorite snacks, especially the driver who will be fighting sleep without their favorite caffeine-filled drink. A couple of bags of chips and everyone’s favorites beverages will cut down on the number of food stops and help you get to your destination quicker. Just don’t drink too much because bathroom breaks can get annoying. And remember– no alcoholic beverages, drive safely, friends.

Phone Chargers

Newer cars all have USB ports in their center consoles to keep your phone topped off. But those short wires could be a bit annoying for people sitting in the second or third row, so longer wires or portable chargers are the smarter move. Plus, if your phone dies, you could easily get lost, or your chance to grab the aux could be gone.

Good Music

I know we mentioned grabbing the aux cord, but there’s always the CD player if you’re more old school. And if you’re riding with childhood friends, there’s never been a more perfect time to bring the old CD binder out to listen to all the mixed albums you made for your crush back in 2008.

Dress Comfortable

This is very underrated. While you might want to get a fit off while at your destination, it’s important to be your most comfortable since you’ll already be conformed to a car for 8-10 hours at a time. Sweat pants or loose-fitting pants are your best bet unless you like falling asleep in skinny jeans and a button-up.

Headphones

Whether you’re pulling over at rest stops to sleep or just tired of your mom playing oldies for the fifth hour in a row (while she sings along), having your own pair of headphones is necessary. They’re also clutch to play some wine down music when you’re trying to get a few hours of shut-eye in between those long drives.

Masks

Last but certainly not least– you can’t forget to wear your masks. You don’t have to wear them in the car, of course, but when you do make stops, it’s necessary, like making sure you have your phone, wallet, and keys within arm’s reach.
