We’re all thankful that Rick Ross is on the road to recovery after his latest health scare had the Internet on edge. The rapper and mogul was hospitalized on Friday with complications reportedly resulting from pneumonia, with some claiming he was on life support for a brief while.

Prior to those headlines, the Maybach Music Group don sat down with TV One’s Uncensored and told his story like a true boss. During the episode, Rozay’s career as a musician, entrepreneur and label head is laid out in detail. He also shines a light on his humble beginnings in Carol City, Miami, an area with a long legacy of producing great hip hop talent.

“I was always happy,” Ross says of his childhood. “As a youngster, that’s one thing my dad always taught me: it never make no sense to complain, so why do it? If I was unhappy, I probably wouldn’t ever say it. You hear the guns go off in Miami every night.”

Rozay’s mother, Ella Roberts, sister, Tawanda and DJ, Sam Sneak are just a few of the people Uncensored spoke with about their main subject. When it comes to the music and business, Ross reveals that his inclinations come from studying some of the best to ever do it.

“I studied the best being a student of the game,” he says. “That comes from a lot of hours sitting with Diddy, sitting with Puff, listening to him negotiate, watching how hard he go and then what I told myself from that angle and that perspective was – if the brand is not something I personally like or personally don’t condone, I won’t do it.”
