Can a man turn 40 in peace?

Yesterday, June 8 was Kanye West’s birthday. And as he celebrated yet another year of making it past 25, the good folks here at CASSIUS decided to celebrate ‘Ye day by compiling a list of the entire squad’s favorite Mr. West lyrics.

Fox News, unsurprisingly, went a different route.

President Trump’s favorite news source grabbed some quotes from a Hollywood Reporter interview with former MTV Chief Van Toffler and made a post about West’s infamous mic-stealing moment at the 2009 MTV VMAs. Remember? That time he returned the “Best Female Video” award to it’s rightful owner Beyoncé?

Toffler was asked what his favorite VMA moment ever was, and revealed something we’d previously never known. Taylor Swift wasn’t the only one crying backstage, Beyoncé shed a few thug tears, too.

“When Kanye walked up onstage with Taylor [Swift] that year, it turned out that Taylor had to go onstage to do her song five minutes later. I ran out of the truck to see that everything was all right, and Taylor and her mom were crying hysterically. I’m not always wonderful with emotions. I didn’t know what to say. Then I went backstage, and Beyoncé was crying, too,” said MTV ex-pat.

Not that this isn’t a potentially interesting bit of music history to someone (maybe?), but considering that Swift is clearly from the “I was told by Applecare” tribe and would probably cry if someone forgot to put whipped cream on her extra-shot nonfat mocha, we can’t help to roll our eyes a little bit.

If Beyoncé had won in the first place, none of this would have happened. The end.
