On Friday June 22, actress and New York governor hopeful Cynthia Nixon shared a photo on Instagram at her eldest son’s graduation from the University of Chicago with a very affirming caption.
“I’m so proud of my son Samuel Joseph Mozes (called Seph) who graduated college this month. I salute him and everyone else marking today’s #TransDayofAction. #TDOA,” she captioned.
Seph is the 21-year-old son of Nixon and her former partner, Danny Mozes. Nixon also has a 15-year-old son with Mozes and a 7-year-old son with her wife, Christine Marinoni.
Nixon also tweeted about Trans Day of action on Friday, saying “Happy #Pride! LGBTQ* people have greater visibility and acceptance than ever before, but members of the trans community are at a much higher risk of experiencing violence and discrimination. Today and every day we stand with trans New Yorkers! #TransDayofAction #Dreamers.”
Nixon announced she was running for New York governor in spring but has been active in supporting LGBTQ+ rights for while. As a bisexual woman herself, she’s spoken up at various rallies and protests.
“As LGBT people, we know how important coming out is, but I would argue that our coming out has never been more important than it is right now,” she said at a rally protesting Trump’s immigration ban in February 2017, as reported by Page Six. “Whether we are lesbian, or gay, or transgender, or Muslim, or Mexican, or any one of a number of other categories I can name, we are allies united by our otherness.”
A bisexual woman as a gubernatorial candidate who is also a trans ally? We stan.
