Aretha Franklin Died with No Will?

TMZ says court documents show that Franklin died “intestate,” which is a fancy way to say she had no will at the time of her passing.

“It’s especially surprising given that she has a special needs son named Clarence who needs financial and other forms of support for his entire life,” TMZ notes.

Under Michigan law, Aretha’s four children will reportedly split her estate equally.

Why Halsey Didn’t Attend the VMAs.

Fans of Halsey were quick to notice the pop singer’s absence on Monday night (August 20). According to her, she decided to skip the festivities because she felt a bit under appreciated.

“I directed all my own music videos this album just to have @MTV ‘#wcw’ me to death and not nominate me for anything so it didn’t feel right to go,” she shared with fans via Twitter that evening. “I’m happy you guys liked the videos. That’s all that matters to me.”

Speaking of being under appreciated, have you read CASSIUS writer David Dennis Jr.’s op-ed on why Black artists and fans should avoid award shows?

Tinder’s College-Only Service Is Giving Students Another Reason Not to Pay Attention in Class.

What up, Tinder U? The dating app giant is gearing up to roll out its new college-targeted service for iOS users enrolled at four-year, accredited and not-for-profit schools. Sure, that big exam you’ve been agonizing over may be tomorrow, but why pay attention during the class review session when you could be lining up your dates for the forthcoming weekend? Hey-o!

On a serious note, the service is a good look for those students looking to meet people outside of class.

“Segmenting them off and making it more centrally focused on their campus life makes sense,” The Verge’s Ashley Carman writes. “Tinder’s marketing frames the service as ideal for finding a study buddy or someone to hang out with on the quad. Also, if Tinder can build in a new dedicated user base of 18-year-olds, it can also start converting them to paid users sooner.”

ICYMI: Judge Joe Brown vs… SZA?

Looks like Brown took issue with SZA’s comments that women don’t need men. ICYMI, here’s what our beloved songbird recently stated in British Vogue:

“Feminine energy is dominant, whether you throw it on a line-up or not,” she stated re: the lack of women performing at music festivals. “We don’t need [men] to survive or be valid functioning members of society. [Women are] representing themselves in a new grown-up demographic that’s probably quite threatening to what we’ve always known.”

Brown’s response: “This’s a selfish & foolish brat.”

Bruh.

Facebook Has Banned Hundreds of Accounts Linked to Kremlin and Iran.

Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook’s head of cybersecurity policy, said in a statement:

“We’ve removed pages, groups and accounts that can be linked to sources the US government has previously identified as Russian military intelligence services. While these are some of the same bad actors we removed for cybersecurity attacks before the 2016 U.S. election, this more recent activity focused on politics in Syria and Ukraine.”
