Rihanna is taking major steps in the fashion industry by launching her own luxury fashion house under LVMH Moët Hennesy Louis Vuitton, per the NYTimes. As the world’s largest luxury group, LVMH will not only bring in Rihanna’s Fenty brand into the fold, but the first products of the collaboration will be unveiled “in a few weeks.”
Rihanna will make history by being the first woman to create an original brand with LVHM, the first woman of color at the top of the LVMH maison, and will helm the first new house created since Christian Lacroix in 1987. Fenty will join the likes of Dior, Givenchy, Celine, and Fendi, among 60 other brands associated with the French conglomerate. The move marks a turning point in the pop star’s transition into an international designer at the level of Nicolas Ghesquière.
“Designing a line like this with LVMH is an incredibly special moment for us,” Rihanna said in the statement. “Mr. Arnault has given me a unique opportunity to develop a fashion house in the luxury sector, with no artistic limits. I couldn’t imagine a better partner both creatively and business-wise, and I’m ready for the world to see what we have built together.”
“Everybody knows Rihanna as a wonderful singer, but through our partnership at Fenty Beauty, I discovered a true entrepreneur, a real CEO and a terrific leader,” said Bernard Arnault, chairman, and CEO of LVMH. “She naturally finds her full place within LVMH. To support Rihanna to start up the Fenty maison, we have built a talented and multicultural team supported by the group resources. I am proud that LVMH is leading this venture and wish it will be a great success.”
News of the collaboration originally leaked in January, but this is the first time that both parties have officially might light of the partnership. This is the latest move for Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty brand after expanding to lingerie last year with Savage x Fenty.
If all goes well, there’s a likelihood the launch can coincide with a new album from Ms. Robyn.
