4. Final Fantasy Tatics

Final Fantasy Tactics took a step away from the traditional RPG elements that made the franchise so great and instead introduced a turn-based strategy game. Utilizing classic Final Fantasy classes and while incorporating an original story Tactics went down as one of the best.

5. Gran Turismo 2

Before there was Forza, there was Gran Turismo and when first introduced took racing simulators to another level. Its only right the sequel Gran Turismo 2 makes the cut with its massive selection cars and highly detailed customization features this was a car enthusiast dream racing game when it was first released.

6. PaRappa the Rapper

While the raps weren’t nothing worth earning five mics over, PaRappa the Rapper was ahead of its time regarding creativity. The game featuring a dog you helped navigate through certain situations by crafting raps went on to sell almost 1.4 million copies and spawned a direct sequel PaRappa The Rapper 2 as well as a guitar-based spinoff called Um Jammer Lammy.

7. The Legend of Dragoon

Sony’s The Legend of Dragoon was beloved by many RPG lovers who owned a PlayStation. While it was no Final Fantasy VII, it stood out and is regarded as one of the best role-playing games ever.

8. I.Q.: Intelligent Qube

Intelligent Qube was fun but also extremely difficult. It was one of those strategy games that just made you think and put those brain muscles to work. It also made you want to throw your controller at the television screen, but that’s just a testament to how great and challenging the game was.

9. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2

The master of the 900 skateboard trick, Tony Hawk invited gamers to try and land his signature move in his uber-popular skateboard video franchise. The second installment in the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 is regarded as the best in the storied franchise.

10. Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back

Nintendo and Sega had Mario and Sonic, PlayStation’s official mascot at the time Crash Bandicoot definitely made his mark in the video game world. His first game was a success for the PlayStation easily earning him many games in PlayStation’s rich history. It was his second adventure Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back that solidified the franchise with gamers.

11. Resident Evil

The originator of the survival horror franchise, Resident Evil is now a global phenomenon in the video game world. The game took horror and action to another level and mixed in with its god awful dialogue went on to become a classic and spawning numerous sequels and movies.

12. Twisted Metal 2

Twisted Metal 2 took the intense car combat first introduced in its predecessor on a global scale. Till this day people are screaming and hoping for a remake of the game but until that day comes, we hope to be able to enjoy it again on the PlayStation Classic.

13. Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee

This game pushed the PlayStation to its limits with its weird gameplay but beautiful graphics and lush environments bringing to life the alien atmospheres of Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee.

14. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

No one thought Capcom could top Resident Evil 2 which would have made this list, but an HD remake is on the way. Anyway, Resident Evil 3, told its predecessor to hold its beer with the third installment in the survival horror video game franchise. This time around they made things even more interesting by introducing the Nemesis, a giant bio creature who stalked you as you tried to make it out of Raccoon City alive.

15. Wipeout

Wipeout was not your typical racer, but it added a whole new element to the genre. With its crisp controls and unique vehicles to choose from, Wipeout was pure fun.

16. Metal Gear Solid

Last but certainly not least, Metal Gear Solid shook the video game world up when it was first released. Hideo Kojima and Konami gave fans a game that was a full-on experience with a fantastic story, intense action, unique stealth, and tactical gameplay and some of the best voice acting to date. Metal Gear Solid went on to spawn many other successful sequels and is held in the highest regards when it comes to classic video games.
