We’re a month out from Election Day in the 2024 presidential race in November, and Vice President Kamala Harris continues to give Donald Trump a run for his money most people didn’t see coming. A lot of influential people have come out in support of the Democratic nominee, and now that list includes none other than NBA legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson.

“I’m here because I’ve known Kamala for over 20 years,” Johnson began during a Harris rally in Flint, Michigan, Friday. “Cookie (Johnson) and I supported her run for attorney general back in the state of California, her run for senator, and now we support her as the VP. But now the biggest moment for all of us — November the fifth — we have to do all we can to elect Kamala Harris as the next president of the United States.”

“She wants to build up the middle class, and I know something about the middle class, because I come from a middle-class family” he continued.

The Los Angeles Laker alum delivered his energetic endorsement with a message specifically for Black men.

“Now, there’s a lot of Black men in here,” Johnson began. “And I don’t mean to, you know, not talk to other people, but this is important. Our Black men, we got to get them out to vote. That’s number one. Kamala’s opponent promised a lot of things last time to the Black community, that he did not deliver on. And we gotta make sure we help Black men understand that. So that’s why I’m here, to make sure I help Black men understand first get out and vote, and then vote for the next president of the United States, Kamala Harris.”

Johnson didn’t just speak at the rally on Friday. He also endorsed the VP via a video shared on Harris’ Instagram page last week.

“It’s 32 days until the Election. Now, you know, I love that number,” he said, referring to his NBA jersey number.

Notably, Trump supporters in the comments were salty about Johnson’s endorsement of Harris, with one person commenting, “If you people really think she is qualified and capable of being president then you need your head examined.”

I mean, if Harris is elected, she’ll be the first president in U.S. history to serve in all three branches of government, whereas Trump basically was just the guy from The Apprentice before being elected to his first abysmal term in office — but, sure, it’s the Black lady who is unqualified.

MAGA minions can tell Johnson to shut up and dribble all they want, but it still won’t change the impact his endorsement will likely have on voters.

“You don’t have to be a Michigan politics expert or a basketball expert to know that Magic Johnson puts points on the board in Michigan and many other states, as people hear about this,” MSNBC’s Ari Melber said Friday. “It draws people in.”

“Harris just drawing the endorsement from a Detroit native as she tours Michigan, the NBA legend, dream team member, and Hall of Famer Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson,” Melber continued. “A big deal that combines Midwest star power with the uniting power of sports and Americana.”

November is coming soon, y’all. Get out and VOTE!
