Lonzo Ball went off last night.

After having a lackluster start in the NBA’s summer league in his first two games as a Los Angeles Laker, Ball ended his third game with a 36 point, 11 assist and eight rebound game.

The one major difference in his game was that he decided to not rock his Big Baller Brand sneakers and put on a purple pair of Kobe Bryant’s Nikes. Lonzo’s father LaVar, has preached independence and refusing to lock arms with another sneaker brand if that bag isn’t right.

“Lonzo is not forced to wear any brand and can play in any shoe he wants as long as it’s OK with the NBA. This is what being independent is all about,” Ball told ESPN by text early Thursday morning.

SportsCenter asked Lonzo after the game about his footwear choice and he responded similarly to his pops, saying, “At BBB, you can play in what you want. I already played in both of my shoes, might as well get the ‘Mamba Mentality’ going. Put ’em on, and it worked out tonight.”

The Nikes he was wearing were the Kobe A.D.’s which dropped on July 1.

Above all, the best response came from LeBron James, who posted this on the ‘gram.
