A shocking Buzzfeed report quotes several sets of parents claiming their daughters are being held against their will by R. Kelly in a sexual and abusive “cult”. According to Buzzfeed, three former members of the singer’s entourage confirmed the parents’ claims with the outlet. One of them revealed, “[Kelly] is a master at mind control. He is a puppet master.”
Parents went on to describe the cult-like situation, saying Kelly keeps a collection of young women at his homes in Atlanta and Chicago, replaces their cell phones with ones specifically used to communicate with him, and requires they call him “Daddy.” The girls also have to ask permission to leave their residence, and their sexual encounters with the singer are filmed.
One parent says R. Kelly punishes the young girls verbally and physically when they break his rules, which includes the ladies being forbidden to flirt with other men. A few of the parents have tried reaching out to their young daughters. One mom and dad say they’ve attempted to contact their child (now 21 years old) for two years, but have been rebuffed by the daughter’s claims that she is in a consenting relationship and is not being held against her will.
Writer Jim DeRogatis—author of the Buzzfeed article, who has also been covering R. Kelly and his alleged predatory relationships for years (see: Chicago Sun-Times)—called into 93.9 WKYS’ The Fam In The Morning to discuss the allegations. According to DeRogatis, Kelly is currently under FBI investigation regarding the claims.
This isn’t the first, and probably not the last time, R. Kelly has been publicly outed for his slimy behavior. Just last year, people questioned his new relationship with a 19-year old model.
A representative for R.Kelly released the following statement to TMZ on Monday afternoon:
“Mr. Robert Kelly is both alarmed and disturbed by the recent revelations attributed to him. Mr. Kelly unequivocally denies such accusations and will work diligently and forcibly to pursue his accusers and clear his name.”
