Chester Bennington, lead singer of Linkin Park, has died, TMZ reports.

According to the entertainment news outlet, Bennington committed suicide, and hanged himself at his home in Palos Verdes Estates in L.A. County. Law enforcement officials discovered his body at 9 a.m. this morning. He was just 41 years old. Billboard has reached out to his reps and former band members for further confirmation.

Throughout his time as the Linkin Park front man, Bennington made it no secret that he struggled with drug and alcohol abuse for years. He’s survived by six children.

It always hurts when stars are gone too soon, but this one stings even more bitterly. Alongside bandmates Mike Shinoda and Mr. Hahn, the rock-rap tinged group defined a generation.

We’ll continue to follow this breaking story.
