Over the weekend, stars showed up and showed out at the 2017 Teen Choice Awards, but per usual, it was Zendaya who stole the show and walked away a winner.
The 20-year-old triple threat hit Sunday’s red carpet in Ashish men’s pajama-style separates and a curly ‘fro that screamed, “I woke up like this.” Not only did she look great, Zendaya took home the Choice Summer Movie Actress award for her performance in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Zen wouldn’t be the young woman we know and love if she didn’t use some portion of the night to enlighten the unenlightened—inevitably, she had a message for the audience.
“Spider-Man is about a young person…Right now I want to talk to all of the young people in the audience,” the actress began before sending her peers a reminder we could all use. “With all the injustice and the hatred and everything that is happening not only in the world but in our country, I need for you young people to be educated. I need you to listen. I need you to pay attention. I need you to understand that you have a voice and it’s OK to use it when you see something bad happening. Make sure that you stay educated, and do not let people tell you what you think you should feel. You’re the leaders. You’re the future leaders of the world. You’re future presidents. You’re future senators. You guys are the ones who will make this world better. I’m just letting you know, right now, that you are the future. So take that very seriously.”
A look and a word. Check out some photos of Zendaya’s graceful Teen Choice Awards appearance and more importantly, take heed.
