L adies, get you a man who can do both.
In conjunction with the release of his long-awaited mixtape Still Thriving, rapper A$AP Ferg dropped an inspirational documentary about helping kids in Africa on TIDAL today. A$AP FERG IN LIBERIA: WHERE STARS ARE BORN follows the humanitarian through his latest fashion endeavor, a partnership with UNIFORM to help create uniforms for kids in Liberia.
The inspiration for the line came from military gear kids were forced to wear as child soldiers. “The UNIFORM team sold stylish military inspired gear in order to raise funds for this project – creating a meaningful exchange of military camouflage for school uniforms. With each purchase, UNIFORM’s signature +1 program produces and donates a school UNIFORM to a Liberian child who otherwise could not attend school,” the press release reads.
Donated school uniforms reportedly increase school attendance by up to 62%, according to the MIT Poverty Action Lab. Test scores also reportedly increase by 0.25 standard deviations and for every three girls that receive a free uniform, two will reportedly delay their pregnancy.
In the doc, Creative Director Ferg explains why he really wanted to be a part of this good cause, saying his family always made sure he had a good life, but also taught him to give back. TIDAL members can watch the full clip above.
