Jane the Virgin actress Gina Rodriguez is shining a light on the Latinx community with two new television series brought to you by her very own I Can And I Will Productions company.

Have Mercy, a drama about a Latina doctor forced to open a secret, makeshift clinic after immigrating to Miami, will air on CBS. Illegal, a one-hour dramedy based on the true story of writer Rafael Agustin, who at 16 years old discovered he was an undocumented citizen living in the United States, is all set to air on The CW.

According to Variety, the two shows are part of a deal Rodriguez struck with CBS Television Studios at the top of 2017. Have Mercy and Illegal are in direct alignment with Rodriguez’s overall commitment to give a voice to the voiceless. Through I Can And I Will Productions, she aims to “create art that tells stories from the unheard and unseen, discover and expose new talent and increase empathy and understanding for all communities…by breaking societal norms on screen.”

Stay tuned for more information on Rodriguez’s upcoming series and efforts in the Latinx community.
