Daniel Caesar In Concert - New York, NY

There are not many musicians who can say they’re having the 2017 that Daniel Caesar is having.

He has seen his profile grow at a rapid pace with the success of songs like “Get You,” “We Find Love,” and “Blessed,” which is a CASSIUS favorite. With a critically-acclaimed debut studio album, Freudian, sold out North American and European tour dates, and a buzz surrounding him that is eerily similar to the one that greeted past representatives of “The Six,” the Toronto native is having one hell of a year.

It’s a big change for the naturally reserved singer and songwriter. A recent sit-down with famed interviewer Nardwuar taught viewers more about Caesar than ever before—and it seems he learned quite a bit about himself, too. Always known to dive deep into the past of his subjects, Nardwuar went further than usual in this interview, bringing up his friends and co-collaborators BADBADNOTGOOD, his desire to play the Drake hotel, and his childhood in Canada. He even presented him a pin that features the label art from an album his father created back when Caesar was in high school.

Nardwuar’s interview style is unique, as he’s known to blow the minds of his guests. He consistently manages to peel back the layers of his guests’ pasts, bringing back events and people who were long forgotten. Seeing Caesar’s genuine reactions to hearing names of some of his first producers, collaborators, and even the places he used to hang out in his youth is some pretty feel-good stuff.

With tour life providing Caesar with new experiences to pull inspiration from, it’s exciting to see where he will take listeners next. Check out the interview above, and listen to Caesar’s music on Soundcloud.
