The holidays of 2017 are in full swing, and we already have some magic to look forward to in 2018. This week, Disney has released a new look at next year’s holiday film, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.

In the dazzling trailer, features an eyepatched Morgan Freeman as Drosselmeyer, who leaves us with the haunting message, “The time of mystery, expectations… who knows what might happen?”  We get a look at a haunting white wonderland that’s both beautiful and chilling, a young Clara (played by Mackenzie Foy), the requisite toy soldiers, and of course, ballet. The American Ballet Theatre principal wunderkind Misty Copeland lights up the stage, along with an orchestra that takes cues from Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s famed “The Nutcracker” ballet. The star ballerina has a highly-anticipated solo in the film.

The live-action version of the classic tale is based on E.T.A. Hoffmann’s 1816 novel, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Along with Foy, Freeman, and Copeland, the film also stars Keira Knightley and Helen Mirren.

This year’s Disney films included the critically-acclaimed film Coco, which highlighted the Latinx tradition of Dia De Los Muertos. Earlier in 2017, Emma Watson starred in a live-action version of the ’90s tale as old as time, Beauty and the Beast. But the next few years will boast a host of highly-anticipated Disney remakes, including live-action takes on Aladdin (featuring Will Smith as Genie), Mulan, and Dumbo. And of course, a star-studded remake of The Lion King has gotten everyone’s attention, with A-listers Beyoncé and Donald Glover in the epic cast lineup. But first up for Disney in 2018 will be director Ava DuVernay’s take on the Madeline L’Engle classic tale, A Wrinkle In Time.

We’ll get to see the magic in 2018, when The Nutcracker and the Four Realms hits theaters on Nov. 2, 2018. But for now, check out the 2017 holiday trailer below.
