The Black Panther is ready to return to his old stomping grounds for commencement this weekend at Howard University.

On Wednesday morning, actor Chadwick Boseman joined Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest on their daytime talk show, Live with Kelly and Ryan to talk about his accomplishments this year, most recently landing the role of commencement speaker at the notable HBCU. He’ll also be presented with an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree.

When asked if he’s scared, Boseman admitted to being nervous about being on stage, but all the same, he’s excited to return to his alma mater.

“It’s an honor to be able to go back and encourage students that are doing great things—and they’re at Howard, so I assume they’re doing great things—and give people the hope,” Boseman said on the show. “The nostalgia of being back there…I’m a little nervous, but more excited than anything.”

Ryan asked if any notable celebrities spoke at his graduation in 2000 and Boseman revealed a surprising coincidence.

“During my graduation, Angela Bassett received an honorary doctorate,” he said. “She plays my mother in the Black Panther, so it’s sort of full circle.”

Boseman will be making his commencement speech at Howard University in Washington D.C. on Saturday, May 12. Watch the video above for more of the interview.
