Guess who else is happy it’s Friday?

DMX can officially resume life as a semi-free man, as he was released from prison earlier this morning. The 48-year-old rap legend spent nearly a year behind bars. You’ll recall he was out on probation in his tax evasion case when he reportedly tested positive for several drugs, including but not limited to opiates and cocaine. Consequentially deemed a flight risk, the “Slippin'” rapper was taken into custody before being officially sentenced in March of last year. Now, he gets a second chance—with some strings attached.

“DMX was released Friday morning from Gilmer Federal Correctional Institution in West Virginia after serving a one-year sentence for tax evasion,” TMZ reports. “With his prison sentence complete, X must now start forking over $2.3 million in restitution to Uncle Sam … and he also has to start outpatient programs for substance abuse and mental health,” the site adds.

X is reportedly planning to drop a new album now that he’s out. According to his lawyer, who spoke with TMZ back in December, he couldn’t wait to get home to his career and family. See the first photo of X as a semi-free man here. Hopefully, this is the new beginning he needs and we wish him and his family the best.
