Megyn Kelly made her NBC debut today in true Megyn Kelly fashion: by doing some racist sh*t, though it was probably unintentional.
Kelly, who is currently in Russia, joined hosts Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb via satellite for a brief segment. When the camera cut to her, she chirped, “It’s great to be with you, Matt and Savannah.”
Kotb, the only person of color of the trio, threw her hands up in the air jokingly in response.
The Fox News ex-pat, who has been hailed as a feminist hero (despite saying she does not consider herself to be a feminist at all) because it takes absolutely nothing for people to be overly impressed with “attractive” white women, is one of a handful of recent NBC hires that signal a clear attempt at wooing the MAGA crowd. Earlier this year, it was announced that Tamron Hall and Al Roker were cut from the final hour of Today in order to accommodate plans to incorporate Kelly into the network’s morning news programming–a move that was criticized by both fans and the National Association of Black Journalists. Hall resigned from NBC as a result.
In case you forgot, Kelly’s racist highlight reel includes stating that Mike Brown was “unarmed, until he tried to steal [Darren Wilson’s] gun,” insisting that both Santa Claus and Jesus Christ were white, denouncing the Black teen who was assaulted in the infamous McKinney, Tex. pool party incident as “no angel,” criticizing former First Lady Michele Obama for perpetuating a “victim” mentality for speaking against racial prejudice and stating that Sandra Bland had a history of suicidal tendencies, though friends and family have repeatedly insisted otherwise— among other deplorable moments.
It’s entirely likely that the 46-year-old anchor was nervous or simply forgot that the Egyptian journalist was present. Or maybe it was a Freudian slip. Either way, it’s never a bad time to remind everyone that Megyn Kelly is the absolute worst and that even “hate-watching” her show will drive ratings to a network that should not be rewarded for bringing her into the fold.
