“I can’t have this phone call without saying to my girl Kamala: I am proud of you. This is going to be historic,” says the former first lady with full support.
The former president then makes it clear that the Obamas have her back when it comes to ensuring Trump doesn’t make it back into the White House. “We called to say Michelle and I couldn’t be prouder to endorse you and do everything we can to get you through this election and into the Oval Office,” Obama said. The Democrats’ full support for the current vice president may signal that things are moving fast, but the ball started rolling back in June when President Biden gave a lackluster debate performance against Donald Trump. He appeared to stumble over his words and had several blank looks on his face. About a month later, after closed-door chats showed that many on the left wanted him to rescind his bid, he did, and many fell in line to support Harris. It injected new energy into the part, and her campaign already has donations amounting to more than $126 million, with a mounting $81 million coming in the first 24 hours.
