As election day nears, Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, are kicking off the HBCU Homecoming tour to get the message out that Donald Trump is not fit to be in the White House… again.
The Harris/Walz campaign’s HBCU Homecoming tour is coming to specific battleground states, such as North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, which are vital in helping the ticket get into the White House.
According to Blavity’s reporting, the Harris/Walz campaign will dispatch representatives to various HBCU campuses on their behalf.
The tour kicked off this past weekend at Winston-Salem State in North Carolina. It will pick back up on October 12, making stops at Lincoln University and Virginia State.
The Harris/Walz campaign will stop at Howard University, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and Clark Atlanta University on October 19.
The website reports that Morehouse and Spelman College will follow on October 26, and more HBCUs will be announced in the coming weeks.
Per Blavity:
“HBCUs are responsible for educating generations of leaders across all industries and remain some of the most distinguished institutions of higher learning in the United States — that is exactly why as a proud Howard University graduate, Vice President Harris helped lead the Biden-Harris administration in investing $17 billion into HBCUs across the country,” said Harris-Walz 2024 Senior Advisor, Trey Baker. “Thanks to Donald Trump and his Project 2025 agenda that will be a complete disaster for Black America, these investments, as well as the historic progress that has been made on behalf of our community by the Biden-Harris administration is all on the line this election. Engaging young Black voters and the broader HBCU alumni network across battleground states, is a testament to the commitment of Team Harris-Walz to truly meeting voters where they are at, to underscore the stakes of this election.”
The Harris/Walz campaign has been doing the leg work as the big day nears. Both Harris and Walz participated in in-person and virtual events with 60 HBCUs, including, but not limited to, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.
On National Voter Registration Day, our current vice president most recently participated in a panel interview with the National Association of Black Journalists while her running mate met with Atlanta University Consortium (AUC) students.
