adidas effectively terminated its relationship with Kanye West back in 2022, but sneakers that were reportedly in stock still were eventually sold. But now it’s being reported that adidas has sold its last Yeezy.
According to the New York Times, adidas announced it sold its last Yeezy during an earning sreports on Wednesday, March 5.
As you should already know, Ye and his adidas partnership came to a crashing end soon after the former decided to go full antisemite. Ye’s controversial comments about Jewish people, as well as accusations of inappropriate workplace behavior, made most people wonder “what took so long?” after ties were officially severed.
Obviously, it was the money since adidas’ sales and profits soared with a healthy chunk of it due to Ye fans rabidly picking up Yeezy sneakers as soon as they dropped, which led to exorbitant mark up on the sneaker resale market. No Yeezy kicks meant predictions that adidas would take a hit, and the receipts proved so with the three stripes brand taking its first profit loss in decades last year.
Rather than destroying and writing off the millions of dollars in Yeezy product, adidas CEO Bjorn Gulden decided to sell what remained and donate portions of the proceeds to organizations that help those harmed by Ye’s comments like the Anti-Defamation League. The goal was to be rid of everything Yeezy by 2024, while getting the brand back on stable footing.
adidas is still moving along with celebrity partnerships, recently collaborating with Virginia rap duo the Clipse to launch the adidas Superstar 92 model. Considering Kanye West is still acting like the leader of Team Swastika, don’t expect any Yeezy retros anytime soon, if ever.
